Conclusion & Reflection

In conclusion, I learnt plenty of the Diwali festival’s history, culture, traditions, music, the musical instruments used in the celebration and the dances performed in the festival. I enjoyed this class because it made me look deeper about the musical and artistic part of Diwali instead of the history of it. I hope that in the future we would also have more classes learning about different countries and their different ways of celebrating their festivals.

WoRK FLOW – DFI Day 2

Google meet recording – practising the how to….

Why is it that it always captures you at your not so greatest moment?!?!!?

Day 2

Another full on day of learning!

Feeling a little overwhelmed with the sheer amount of content. However, I realise that I can’t physically do it all and will pick out what is relevant or I feel will work with or learners.

Dorothy B looking at LeARN Ako

Learn Create Share – are the base boards of out whare that is our learning

Learn is how we create effective practice that engages our learners and meet their needs in the digital world.

Deep Dive – Google Keep. Note taking digitally. Found on google as the light bulb icon

Hapara – being able to work with your learners and not just a monitoring tool making sure they are on the right pages. Creating class groups and being able to work along side students

Gmail – creating an easier work flow. The cog has the settings to change the out look and format of what the gmail page looks like. Being able to star improtant emails and grouping.

The lock and clock icon locks messages so that they can not be copied etc – in settings

Thinking around having a differnet app to open personal gmail so that there is not confusion as to which account you are in???

Takeaway – UNDO button – set at 30seconds. Have 30 seconds to recall email to edit etc.

Google Calendar – how does this work for me in a classroom setting? I use it on my phone but am still a pen and paper girl with a diary and planner. I find this easier to track but have dabbled in google calendars today and can see the benefit of using this especially as it shows google meets, meetings etc. Have set it up currently to show meetings. Will see how this goes…..work in progress.

Taming Our Tabs – Marie Kondo for google!!! Being able to condense or group tabs rather than having several open. The lollypops – can click and drag onto bookmarks. Pin tabs – right click to pin. Means that the tab can not be shut until it is unpinned – great for that ooops every now and then! Grouping tabs, Toby mini, Tab snooze and Workona.

Again a great time to be able to test and try! Need to find some time to clean up my emails and again personalise it. A bit of sand pit playing….

Bonus of the day

Lunch in the sun and a couple of chapters of my book!

On another note…….. Who knew there was a skinny snowman, lollypops and hotdogs!

I’d only just got my head around the waffle!

Yesterday’s Home EC practical

Yesterday we made some sort of pancakes called pikelets which turned out kind of decent especially with the raspberry jam that we added at the end.

Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp white sugar
  • 1 cup self raising flour (or 1 cup plain flour and 2 tsp baking powder)
  • pinch salt
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp of melted butter
  • Spray oil/canola oil for cooking

Directions

  1. In a bowl, beat the egg and sugar until mixture has thickened and turned pale. (I use an electric hand mixer for this, but you could do by hand.)
  2. In another bowl, sift together the flour and salt (and baking powder if using plain flour).
  3. Pour the egg mixture, the milk and melted butter into the dry ingredients, and mix until just combined.
  4. Heat some oil in a non-stick frying pan on the stove to a medium heat.
  5. Drop in mixture. When bubbles begin to form, flip each pikelet over to cook the other side. (Add a little extra oil, or spray oil to the pan after every couple of pikelets as needed to stop them sticking).
  6. Serve immediately, with a drizzle of maple syrup and fresh fruit or cream and jam!
  7. Once cool, these can be frozen and reheated in the microwave when needed.

Practical- Pikelets

Yesterday we made pikelets.

We had to get used to being in the kitchen again and be sure to clean it thoroughly. These are the ingredients.

~Flour

~Baking powder

~Sugar

~Eggs

~Salt

~Milk

We had to sift the flour,  baking powder and salt together. Then I whisked the egg and sugar together until it had a lighter colour. Then we added the egg mixture to the dry mixture, Then added the milk to the batter that made it into a runny but too runny mixture.

Here are some examples of what they would have looked like if we had photos.
