HCG – Pumpkin soup and Pizza bread

last week my class made pumpkin soup along with pizza bread, both of our dishes had quite easy recipes and were quick to make with the help of a few hands.  In my group was me, Anita, Marcia and Maumahara.  Below is the recipe and method we used for our spicy pumpkin soup, in my opinion I think the soup was really nice and warm for a rainy day.

HCG – Pumpkin soup, pizza dough bread

In my hospitality and catering class my group and I put together a nice warm pumpkin soup with a side of pizza dough bread.   It was a very easy recipe to assemble with the help of many hands working together to create a nice dish of pumpkin soup.  We had already made the pizza dough bread multiple times so we already had the knowledge on how to make it off by heart.

The recipe we used to make the pumpkin soup is:

1 C peeled, diced pumpkin, ½ C peeled, diced carrot, ¼ onion, finely diced, Peeled, grated ginger – to taste (1tsp), Crushed garlic – to taste (1tsp), Curry powder – to taste (1tsp), 3 C water

Roast pumpkin, carrot and onion until tender and golden.

Put in a pan with ginger, garlic and curry powder and saute until it becomes fragrant.

Add water and simmer until vegetables are beginning to break down.

Taste and correct flavour to your liking.

Blend soup and pass through a sieve, squeeze as much through as possible or your soup will be thin.

Serve in a bowl garnished with a drizzle of coconut cream, and a sprinkle of fried shallots.

For the pizza dough bread its basically the same as making your normal fry bread or takakau recipe.

By combining yeast, warm water, sugar letting that sit in a bowl in a warm place till it starts to foam up.  We then would add about 2 cups of flour and need it in with the foamy like yeast mixture and let that rise in a warm place for an hour till doubled in size.

One the dough has risen in size we would then place our dough into an oven tray and spread it out, poking holes into the dough and covering it in oil and a bit of sea salt,  we were also being extra and added some garlic and herbs to add a bit more flavour to our pizza dough bread.

I normally don’t like pumpkin soup but the recipe we used I really enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I’ve had pizza dough bread multiple times and I think it gets better and better every time my group and I make it.

Pumpkin Soup & Garlic Bread

Kia ora, last week in food tech we made pumpkin soup and garlic bread. We started off with cutting up the pumpkin and carrot and put them in the oven. Once they were soft we took them out and put them in a pan to cook them a little bit more. Then we added some water and coconut milk into the pan and mixed well. We let the mixture thicken up then took if off the element and put the mixture into a blender. When it was finished we poured it into a bowl and started making the bread. We had already made the dough and rolled it out so we just cut into the shapes that we wanted and placed them into a pan with some oil. They turns a nice light brown colour and then cover the bread in some garlic butter that we made from chopped up garlic, herbs and butter. I think something we did really well was making the bread but next time I think we should add more flavourings into our pumpkin soup. Thank you for reading bye bye.

hospitality & catering muffins and tart

last week we made muffins and we also made banoffee tarts. The ingredients for the muffins was flour, milk, sugar, eggs, baking powder, blueberries, and apples and in the banoffee thingy was bananas, this caramel thing, bananas, custard, and melted chocolate.

to make the muffins we all had to work together as a group so half of us was cutting up the apples and cooking them and the other half was mixing in all the ingredients for the muffins together.

to make the banoffee tarts we had to use these small tart shell things and fill them up with custard and caramel we made before hand to put in then we put thin slices of banana on top and drizzled melted chocolate on top.

in my opinion the  banoffee tart things tasted yuck because of the shell thing and the muffins were pretty good.

IDY Overall Review Term One

This Term my IDY class has been working at the Kawakawa RSA doing and rotating jobs. It has saved the RSA a lot of money because of our class and using our double to clean it for free and it benefits us to get some sort of work experience. There are a couple of jobs that we had to do but it depended on what needed to be cleansed and organised. The jobs that I did were cleaning the bars, the kitchen, the toilets at both ends, the chiller, the recycling, vacuuming the carpet. I have done some of those jobs a couple of times more than once . My experience so far at the RSA has been good because I found it fun for the time being and the job I enjoyed the most was cleaning the chiller because it really helps my organisation skills. Personally i think all the jobs i have done have been done properly and satisfied by my teacher because I do not like when things are not done properly especially if it was my job. Even though we are doing the same jobs all over again in Term Two at least I will know what to clean and how to clean it without having to ask the teacher for any guidance.

RSA – Reflection

This week at the rsa me and Anita had to restock the fridge in the chiller and clean out the chiller. First we sorted out where all the bottles should go on the shelves in the fridge and refill all the gaps if there was space. then we got all the empty boxes from the ground and put them in the bin after that we put all the full boxes on the shelves in the chiller and stacked the boxes as tidy as we could.

RSA Reflection

What I have been doing at Idy, for the past 10 weeks our class has been going to the Kawakawa RSA to clean once a week for work expreince, to give back to our community, here are all the jobs that i have done so far at the RSA, I have done toilet cleaning, recycling, table wiping,Moping and cleaning the kitchen. Those are all the jobs that I have done so far, out of all those jobs I think doing cleaning the kitchen was probably one of the hardest out of all the jobs that I have done but other than that it was a cool experience to work at the Kawakawa RSA. Overall it was pretty cool to go to the Kawakawa RSA and work there for work experience.

R.S.A cleaning 1 may 2024

today I worked with two of my mates  cleaning the toilets. there was one down by the bar area and another two down the other end.

so since there were three of us we all decided to all do something so that there was no one left out doing nothing, so what we did was that I was spaying and while my mate wiped and I helped him. and my other mate changed the rubbish bags. to finish up we moped the floor.

Industry Studies Experience.

What I have learnt in Idy is that you have to write in capital letters for paper forms so the machines can pick up the letters properly and how to write my own CV. Idy class was a nice experience in my opinion, even though I have not experienced what the class has been doing but listening to them talk about the things they do outside of the class like cleaning, washing the buckets and wiping things down as jobs. I think its a amazing idea and a great experience for students.

We cleaned everything up outside & moved into the shed where we had to tidy stuff up in there, we swept the ground, moved stuff around to make it more spacious & other stuff. for all of that to be done it took us around a hour & a half, with a few breaks in between. overall it was a very easy cleaning day & we all got our jobs done & the place clean.

idy reflection – sov

This Wednesday Whaea Jaimie had put me, Carrda and Maya-Maria on pulling out the crosses. In the beginning we were picking all of them up together however I thought it would be more effective to work in rows as there were three rows of crosses and poppies. We finished quite early so we decided to help out in the shed. Me, Carrda and Maya-Maria put the crosses on top of each other to make more space ( with he help of Whaea Jaimie ). We then sweeped and undecorated a decoration. Taking every leaf and staple off and putting them in their right places.

we took a break so I decided to go help Whaea Jaimie in the kitchen along with Carrda, I wiped the shelves while Carrda emptied the fryer. I helped him scrape off the dirt that was growing and with hat we finished for the day!

Kia Ora Ka Ako

PDF

This is a static image, these are still images that depict certain things upon an object or subject along with key words telling the viewer the main purpose of said images.

If you look at the static image above, it reads the following.

“I Want you to help poor kids, Save healthy lunches”.

I was told that this is not the main purpose of the whole healthy lunches thing but my perspective is not wrong either.

Ka Ora Ka Ako

For the last 3 weeks my class (10M) have been learning about doing static images around either if we wanted to keep the school lunches or didn’t because our topic was around the Goverment trying to take the free school lunches from all the schools. A Static images are literally visual images that do not move. They include greeting cards, posters, slides and photographs. I really liked doing this and learning about what static images are and what their purpose are for, it was hard to learn about it at first but understood what a static image was step by step.
